Mechanical Lubricator Upgrade
DNV-GL approval for Tekomar CYLUBE
June 11th, 2014
The Tekomar CYLUBE obtained principal approval from DNV-GL. This is the formal confirmation of this upgrade solution for achieving cylinder lubrication oil savings without compromising on reliability.
Tekomar CYLUBE is installed on 7 ships with the first one being in operation for more than one year and reaching an accumulated total of more than 20’000 running hours. Follow up inspections resulted in very good results from the system itself and the piston / cylinder liner condition. MLU for MAN B&W engines is based on a similar upgrade concept for SULZER engines which was already installed on more than 50 ships, accumulating more than 300’000 running hours.
Tekomar CYLUBE replaces the weak point of the mechanical cylinder lubrication system: the engine speed dependency. A load dependent lubrication characteristic is achieved by an electronically controlled actuator adjusting the stroke of the oiler pumps and still maintaining accurate timing and injection on every piston stroke.
